These are some typical terms and definitions.

MISSING
The standard classification for adults aged 18 to 65.

ENDANGERED MISSING
Applies to minors under 18 and seniors over 65. Adults between these ages may also be classified as Endangered Missing if they have a medical condition or are believed to be in danger based on the circumstances of their disappearance.

ENDANGERED RUNAWAY
Refers to a minor who is missing under circumstances indicating they left voluntarily.

FAMILY ABDUCTION
A minor believed to have been taken by a family member, such as a parent, grandparent, relative, who lacks legal custody or legal custodial-parent permission to take the child.

LOST/INJURED MISSING
Covers individuals of any age missing due to an accident or becoming lost in a wilderness area, where foul play is not suspected. Cases involving probable suicides are included, but those involving mental illness or dementia-related wandering are not. For example, a person disappearing during a rafting trip would fall into this category.

NON-FAMILY ABDUCTION
Refers to a minor who is believed to have been abducted by someone outside their family.
